H, I am Kelley - I have been in practice for the past 18 years and have 2 college age kids. I am licensed in Colorado, California and Oregon as these are the states I have lived in and still visit. I really struggled with my own mental health in college but back then therapy wasn't that common. There's a saying that therapist's become who they once needed - and that is definitely true. I offer a kind and compassionate ear, judgement free, collaborative approach - based in Brain Science. I want you create a place for you to be grounded and confident with what you bring to the world.

hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. My professional background includes extensive experience working with adolescents in school-based settings, where I have supported young people through various challenges such as social anxiety, separation anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues following parental separation or divorce. In my work, I prioritize Cultural Humility and Competence, ensuring that my approach is respectful and inclusive of diverse identities and backgrounds. I have worked with clients from the LGBTQIA2S+ community, individuals of color, and people from various religious traditions. This commitment helps me to provide a therapeutic environment that is sensitive to the unique experiences of each client. I utilize a range of therapeutic approaches tailored to meet your needs. My practice incorporates Gestalt methods, such as the empty chair technique, which focuses on present-moment experiences to facilitate healing from past issues. Additionally, I employ person-centered therapy to create a supportive and empathetic space where you can freely explore your thoughts and feelings. My sessions also integrate art, play, and sand tray techniques, which can offer creative and engaging ways to work through your challenges. I am enthusiastic about supporting you on your journey through life. I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I serve clients across California through secure and convenient telehealth visits bringing personalized care to you, wherever you are. My goal is to make psychiatric care feel accessible, judgment-free, and genuinely supportive. I specialize in working with adults navigating anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. My approach is integrative — combining medication management with education, mindfulness, and supportive therapy. I take time to understand the whole picture using a bio-psycho-social lens: looking at how biological factors (like vitamin deficiencies or hormonal imbalances), psychological stressors (like trauma or burnout), and social dynamics (like school or work pressure) all impact mental health. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, I spent several years as a registered nurse, and I’ve worked extensively in both inpatient psychiatry and as a clinical consultant. My training and experience allow me to treat each person as a whole not as a list of symptoms, and to create care plans that are practical, empowering, and tailored to you. Outside of work, I love traveling and spending time with my son and family. These connections remind me of the importance of balance, joy, and meaningful relationships — values I bring into my work every day. Here, you're not just receiving treatment — you're being seen, heard, and supported as a whole person. My mission is to help you move from just surviving to truly thriving.

Whittier, CA

Pragmatic Solutions Psychotherapy is an individual practice founded to bring quality treatment to adults struggling with childhood onset trauma, adult trauma, depression, anxiety, distress related to health conditions, difficulty adjusting to major life issues, problems with self-worth, relationship issues, and more. I practice from a trauma-informed approach and can help you overcome early life stressors that may continue to bother you in your relationships with others and in your daily functioning. Much of the distress in dealing with mental health struggles comes from a lack of knowledge about the disorder you are experiencing, symptoms associated with it, and how to confront these symptoms in a way that brings about healing and growth. As my name suggests, I like to provide practical and tangible skills clients can use out of the office to help bring about change.

Do you worry about being judged by others? Have you opened up to someone, only have your feelings minimized or dismissed entirely? You may have even started holding back parts of yourself in order to feel accepted. If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone. As someone with both professional and lived experience, I understand how important it is to feel like someone truly gets you. Together we’ll explore triggers for anxiety and depression and create strategies that will help you improve your overall quality of life.

Welcome to my page! My approach is flexible and depends on your needs, values, and goals. I work best with clients who want a warm, compassionate, and direct space to process their experiences, challenge unhelpful patterns, and build practical skills for everyday life and relationships. I strive to create a comfortable space where authenticity (yours and mine) is central. I'll always come to session with warmth, curiosity, and a little silliness. My work is rooted in relationships, community, and attachment. I blend mindfulness, creative approaches, and evidence-based talk therapies to support clients navigating political stress, sadness and worry, identity exploration, relationships, life transitions, and feelings of disconnection or burnout. I especially enjoy working with young adults to strengthen communication skills, build confidence, and reconnect with themselves and others during periods of change and uncertainty. Everyone deserves to experience more of the good things in life and less of the bad. Individual and collective healing is a radical act toward experiencing and creating more of life's good things. Together, we’ll build on your strengths, explore what matters most to you, and work toward creating more ease, connection, and meaning in your life. If this sounds like a good fit, I’d love to connect.

College can be an overwhelming time with academic pressure and navigating challenging personal and social situations. You don’t have to stay stuck in patterns or situations that aren’t working. If anxiety, depression, focus challenges, trauma, queer identity questions, or feeling disconnected are making college life harder, therapy can offer support in understanding what’s going on and finding more sustainable ways to feel calmer, clearer, and more able to manage daily life and relationships. In our work together, we’ll gently explore the patterns that keep you feeling stuck and build awareness and skills that create more choice and flexibility in how you respond to stress, emotions, and relationships. We’ll pay attention not only to thoughts and feelings, but also to your body and nervous system, helping you feel more grounded and aligned with what matters most to you. Therapy with me is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and respect for your unique story. You won’t be judged or rushed, and we’ll move at a pace that feels safe, supportive, and responsive to your needs. You can expect a warm, respectful relationship; space to explore both present challenges and past experiences; and practical support for feeling safer in your body and more capable in daily life. There is room for difficult emotions, without pressure to “fix” everything right away. Whether you’re navigating daily overwhelm or seeking deeper healing, therapy can help you feel more connected and alive.

I have been a therapist since 2004 working in both private and group practice with adults and children before joining with Kaiser Permanente psychiatry in 2012, recently returned to sole private practice in 2021. I earned my clinical social work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, which was awarded a top 5 ranking in the field. I additionally have completed post-graduate studies at University of Virginia Mary Ainsworth Clinic and American School of Clinical Psychology in Washington DC. While I enjoy use of various therapy methods, including CBT and ACT to treat anxiety and depression, I have a particular passion in the use of EMDR for trauma and stress disorders. I consider myself very privileged to have trained with and sought consultation with Andrew Leeds, who is an EMDRIA board member and foundational researcher in the field. .Many of my clients have reported this technique to be a fast and highly effective treatment that they wish they had considered sooner. Please feel free to look over the links regarding the high-effectiveness of EMDR and to reach me with any questions. Additionally, I have extensive expertise in the area of dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) another great therapy style that I can strongly recommend, I was very fortunate to be part of a 2012 Ben Hudnell Grant to develop a DBT program for Kaiser Permanente’s Psychiatry Department, initially at the Washington DC clinic and then later heading the program for KP Psychiatry in Pleasanton, CA; running these programs from 2015-2021. I find the coping skills taught in DBT to be essential, not only for reducing suffering and problem behaviors, but for helping to create a life worth living. While DBT was initially developed to assist those with Borderline Personality Disordered traits, it has broadened to include helping those looking to manage with mood swings, anger, relationship problems, binge eating, bipolar disorders, anxiety and depression, as well as assisting those is continuing recovery from addictions. I especially recommend DBT for those who struggle with anger or shutting down, as relationship dynamics are really where difficult can present. I teach both basic DBT and advanced practice, whether your new to process or experienced I am happy to support your process in session. There is the hope to include group education and process, in the future, pandemic needs permitting. I see my clients online via secure telehealth on Mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays are available for in-person for those full-vaccinated and without COVID exposure concerns. You may schedule a free 20-minute telehealth consult via website below.

Many of the students I work with feel overwhelmed by their thoughts, anxious about the future, or stuck in patterns they can’t seem to break. Some deal with intrusive thoughts, constant worry, or panic that gets in the way of school, relationships, or sleep. Others are coping with past experiences, burnout, or the pressure to “keep it all together.” I offer a space where you don’t have to pretend you’re fine. Together, we slow things down, understand what’s happening in your mind and body, and build tools that help you feel more grounded, confident, and in control of your life.
