I’m a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of diverse experience in mental health, including work at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and UC San Diego. My career spans roles in clinical practice, research, and education, giving me a broad perspective on mental health challenges and treatment approaches. I have worked extensively with veterans, trauma survivors, and individuals navigating intimate partner violence (IPV) or relationship-related concerns, as well as adults facing anxiety, depression, grief, and life transitions. I provide trauma-informed, evidence-based, and integrative therapy that blends modern psychotherapies with mindfulness and Zen Buddhist principles. This approach helps students build resilience, self-compassion, and clarity. Therapy is tailored to each individual, offering practical tools for managing stress, navigating relationships, and balancing academic and personal demands. I offer secure telehealth sessions across California, making it easy for students to access support alongside their studies. My goal is to create a safe, understanding space where students can explore challenges, develop coping strategies, and strengthen a sense of purpose and well-being during this formative stage of life.
Hi, I’m Samantha (she/her). I’m a mixed-race, queer therapist providing down-to-earth, individual, virtual therapy to teens & young adults. I support young people as they process trauma, move through life’s challenges, & shape lives that feel authentic & joyful to themselves. These years can be overwhelming, complex, & full of questions around identity, relationships, & how to feel safe in your own skin. I am here to be an ally through it all. I am particularly passionate about working with immigrants, queer, trans, & gender-expansive communities, & folks facing the impacts of trauma & systemic violence. My style is warm, thoughtful, and nonpathologizing – I believe healing occurs within a larger social context. If you think we'd be a good fit, email or call me to schedule a free 15 minute consultation call! I look forward to connecting with you. Currently practicing under supervision of Rayne Banneck, LMFT #124607 through Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health in California.

College should be about growth, not just survival. If you're struggling with unpredictable mood swings, overwhelming worry, lots of sadness, or using substances to cope, or climate anxiety, I'm here for you. I work best with students who experience intense emotional ups and downs, find themselves caught in cycles of productivity followed by inability to function, or use alcohol or other substances to manage difficult feelings and thoughts, or those who are preoccupied with climate-related grief or anxiety. I offer a space where you don't need to hide your challenges or pretend to have it all together. We'll focus on getting to know each other, creating a safe space to open up, and increasing coping strategies, such as recognizing early warning signs, building supportive routines, navigating academic pressures, developing genuine connections without relying on substances, and handling the climate crisis with more ease. Whether you're facing mood swings, anxiety, depression, substance use challenges, climate distress, or all of these, there's a path forward. Reach out today to take the first step towards change, growth and stability.

I have provided therapy to many undergraduate and graduate students at UC San Diego for over 17 years. I have helped people struggling with a wide range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, academic and relationship concerns, trauma, and concerns related to identity (e.g., racial / sexual / gender). In addition, I have worked particularly closely with international students / foreigners, and LGBTQ+ folks. My approach to therapy is warm and supportive, as well as practical. I care about social justice issues and find that these are often relevant to the distress that people experience. In therapy, we will explore the roots of your distress and work on tools and coping strategies to help you overcome the challenges you face. I do this work in individual therapy and in couples therapy. I look forward to meeting with you. I know you want to feel better soon, and I am ready to help you with that! At the Heart is a community counseling center whose goal is to bridge the gap that exists in access to services and to help heal our community, families, and individuals. All members of our community need respect and acceptance. Our counselors provide a caring and non-judgemental environment for clients to get the support and encouragement they need, when they need it. We provide both traditional/secular counseling and Christian based counseling, determined by a client's preference. We meet our clients where they are at and work collaboratively to help each client achieve their individual goals. We have several different kinds of providers. We have a Peer or Lay Counseling Division which is an every day person that is passionate and has a heart for helping others, life experience, and has completed a 13 week (40 hour) counseling course through At the Heart. The course addresses depression, trauma, anxiety, suicidality, grief/loss, child abuse, domestic violence, addiction, and mindfulness. These providers could be nurses, teachers, stay at home parents, retirees, and so on. They have an open heart and a willingness to listen and encourage. We have a Professional Division which involves Trainees, Associates/Interns, and Pastors. Trainees are Graduate/Doctoral school students in the field of counseling that need to acquire hours towards graduation and licensure. Associate and Interns are Post-Masters/Doctoral Graduates that are accruing hours towards licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or Professional Clinical Counseling. All of our counseling staff receive weekly case consultation and supervision by a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that has special training in supervising non-licensed clinicians. Be assured, you will be provided with quality care and support. It is a team approach. Contact us today to speak with a scheduler who will match you with a counselor who is best suited to meet your needs.

I believe therapy is a creative endeavor. Having a space to speak freely and be heard with care and attention can provide a person with more internal space for lived experience, emotion, thought and desire. In psychotherapy, you can express your thoughts and feelings and gain insight into some of the unconscious sources of your conflicts. I will provide an attentive ear and a thoughtful mind. Together we can create a collaborative space wherein you can bring your self more fully. My goal is to create a supportive and safe space for clients to talk openly and feel understood. I also believe it is important to help clients connect issues and learn to have compassion for themselves. Along with increasing self-awareness and symptom relief, one of the most important gifts that therapy offers is the hope and possibility for real growth and change.
