Therapists for college students near Denver, CO
I work with adults who are navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, trauma, grief, the complexities of life transitions and more. You might be struggling with unhelpful thought patterns, emotional overwhelm, or difficult dynamics with others—or maybe you're just feeling stuck and not sure why. Together, we’ll explore what’s holding you back and build meaningful steps toward the life you want to live. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you—it’s about helping you reconnect with the strength that’s already within you. Real change begins in a space that feels safe, supportive, and real. That’s what I aim to create: a place where you can be fully seen, heard, and supported. I show up as a real person in the therapy room—with empathy, warmth, and curiosity. My approach is active, collaborative, and inclusive, grounded in values like self-compassion, empowerment, and nonjudgmental awareness. I strive to strike a balance between being supportive and gently challenging, so you feel encouraged to grow at your own pace. In our first session, we’ll take time to understand who you are, what you’re experiencing, and how your past has shaped your present. I take a holistic view, honoring your individuality, identity, and lived experiences. Together, we will design a treatment plan grounded in evidence-based practices that may include CBT, ACT, DBT or EMDR, empowering you with tangible tools to support your healing and create lasting change.

I work with teen and adult individuals from a humanistic, somatic, mindfulness based perspective. It is my belief that the therapeutic relationship itself is a guiding force in the healing process and an essential component for clients to more deeply access themselves. In our time together, we will increase awareness around your relationship to self, relationship patterns with others, how you work to notice and process feelings, how you relate to past wounds and trauma and how you regulate through stressful times. Together we will increase your capacity to compassionately trust and come back to yourself over and over again. I offer a compassionate presence to hold space for whatever you are carrying; especially for people who identify as women. I work with depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD and family conflict in addition to dealing with the every day stresses of life. My goal is to support you so that you can feel more equipped to show up fully in your life.
I have over 7 years of experience in the mental health field, working as a behavioral health nurse at Jacobi Medical Center, Nix Hospital, Perimeter Behavioral Health, and as a consultant at King Haven Counseling Group. I am a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a wealth of experience in treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions. With expertise in anxiety, depression, autism-related aggression, PTSD, insomnia, geriatrics, and various other mental health disorders, I am dedicated to providing comprehensive and personalized care to my patients, working alongside psychologists, psychiatrists, and other members of the team. I have demonstrated my proficiency in helping individuals struggling with anxiety by implementing evidence-based treatment modalities, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and medication management. Through my empathetic approach, I create a safe and supportive environment for patients to address their concerns and develop effective coping strategies. In my practice, I have successfully worked with individuals battling depression, tailoring treatment plans to meet their specific needs. Utilizing a holistic approach, I combine therapy, medication management, and lifestyle modifications to support patients on their journey to recovery. I embarked on a remarkable journey to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), displaying determination and a passion for mental health care. My path to this specialized field began with a bachelor's degree from Western Governors' University. After completing my MSN program, I pursued certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). This involved passing the rigorous national certification exam, showcasing my proficiency in diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders.
I work with non-linear thinkers who are searching for a therapist with intuitive wisdom who cherishes the divergent path. I specializes in connecting with ADHDers who have always felt different even if others couldn't tell. My clients are notoriously curious and adept improvisors, who are playfully creative, but they still feel perpetually out-of-sync with the world around them. They charm others with their insight and levity, and save the biting criticisms for themselves. So they end up feeling like anxious imposters, waiting to be exposed. Acquiescing to others has helped you get by without too many catastrophes, but deep down you can't keep convincing yourself that you're okay with just getting by. There's a deeper itch that's beckoning you into an alternative way of being. Yes, still different, but personal, integrated, aligned with your soul. I approach therapy as the life-changing work that it is, and while there's a serious commitment to exploring one's psyche, it doesn't mean you or I are required to take ourselves too seriously. Excavating one's own lived experience and the difficulty of navigating a world not built for you is not for the faint of heart, yet we continue to be curious, adapt, and play. I am intentional in creating and holding space for clients to find and share a more authentic version of themselves. Clients are well-met when they bring curiosity about their distinct approach to life, courage to speak what has been left unsaid, and compassion to nurture a deeper truth about themselves.

I love working with college students. You are at an exciting pivot point in your life. Adjusting to college is both exciting and daunting. You may be dealing with social, cultural and academic stress as you adjust to a new environment. You may begin to look at your childhood and teen years from a new perspective. You may be thinking about the life you want to design for yourself moving forward, and the impact you want to make in the world. I have worked with student athletes and others juggling the demands of college life. In Colorado Springs, I work with students from Colorado College, UCCS, and Pikes Peak State College. I am happy to work with students from UC Boulder and Colorado School of Mines via Telehealth. I believe everyone has the capacity to heal and thrive, and sort out what's distressing or confusing you, including academic stress, romantic relationships, family relationships, friendships, and your relationship with yourself. I offer ways to understand and manage anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity issues. I am client-centered and take a holistic biopsychosocial approach. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship, and I use evidence-based practices and the latest scientific research to help you achieve relief, clarity, and joy.
We offer affirming psychotherapy and sex therapy for individuals, couples, multiple-partner relationships, and poly and leather families. We are experts in alternative sexualities, specializing in working with adults in the kink/BDSM, polyamorous/non-monogamous, trans/gender-nonconforming/non-binary, LGBQIA+, and sex work communities. We work with those who live openly and out; and those who have more conservative and private lifestyles. We use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including holistic, person-centered, collaborative, empowerment-focused, trauma-informed, IFS, DBT, and EMDR. We welcome people of every ability, age, gender, national origin, race/ethnicity, religious affiliation, and sexual orientation, and we cultivate space for conversations that de/reconstruct whiteness, and cultivate positive racial and intersectional identities. People seek therapy for many reasons, including: a deeper understanding of identity or sexuality; difficulty adjusting to relationship difficulties or traumatic experiences; anxiety and/or depression; sexual functioning issues; compulsive thoughts or behavior; and/or changes in relationship structure or power dynamic. Most people decide to work with my practice because of my specialized training and experience, or because they feel more comfortable speaking to a therapist with first-hand knowledge of alternative identities and lifestyles.

I believe that change feeds the soul—and that healing begins when we meet ourselves with compassion, curiosity and courage. In addition to completing my Master's in Clinical Counseling at Adams State University, I am currently pursuing certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner through Somatic Experiencing International. Hi! My name is Alicia, and I want to meet you. Yes, you! College can be intense. You're away from home with the pressure to succeed and do well, but there's also dealing with roommates, parties, and being around people who resemble aliens. You know, they just don't get you and you've never encountered anyone quite like them before. On top of this, you may be the first in your family to go to college. You can't admit to them that it's hard. They had all their hopes and dreams riding on you. So where to go? Come to therapy! Yes, therapy. It may be your first time talking to someone, but I promise it helps to tell someone what you're thinking and what you're feeling. College doesn't have to be scary, and you don't have to go through it alone. We can figure it out together. I am a licensed clinical social worker who has worked with many college students, especially those who identify as first-gen and/or veterans. Therapy with me is conversational. In sessions, you can speak freely. I'm not into judging. That would probably make me a lousy therapist. I offer thoughtful reflection and point out patterns in your behavior that may not be the most helpful, and then we problem-solve and strategize solutions to help get you feeling better. I can also teach you skills to help when your emotions feel overwhelming.
Do you feel stuck in anxiety, numbness, or low self esteem? We're here to help. We are licensed trauma counselors with a niche in childhood trauma and spiritual hurt. Our practice specializes in counseling for anxiety and trauma. Many people dealing with this, have been taught they can't trust themselves, can't love and have autonomy with their body, and have to stick to their respective scripts. These stories have come from harmful religious experiences, childhood trauma, as well as social messaging such as heterosexism, racism, ableism, sizeism cisgenderism, etc. We have the tools to help you be the agent of your own healing. We believe everyone has the innate capacity to heal from distressing experiences in order to move forward and be their authentic compassionate selves.

I believe in empowering my clients to access and to unfold to their own inner wisdom and brilliance. Rather than providing all the answers or solutions, I facilitate a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can investigate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My academic journey has taken me to many different countries, and I am passionate about combining my interest in western psychology with the ancient wisdom of Buddhist psychology. I am a psychotherapist in Boulder, Colorado and have spent my career working with people to find solutions, move towards recovery and create positive change in their lives. My focus is helping you to figure out the path forward to improve your quality of life. That might mean finding emotional stability, processing trauma, creating personal growth, or improving relationships. I have worked with college students, both undergraduate and graduate students, for the last 10 years at the University of Colorado Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) doing individual, group and couples therapy. Upon starting private practice, I intentionally found an office close to campus as I hoped to continue working with students. I love working with students on the challenges that come up in college and grad school such as adjusting to college and academic stress, processing issues that you may have hoped to leave at home, or working through new experiences or traumas that are causing distress. I seek to provide my clients with a safe and non-judgmental space in order to move towards emotional health and stability. I specialize in EMDR trauma therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness based treatments to help with trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders and feeling stuck in life.
