We strive to encourage and challenge our clients to be their best selves. This environment is a non-judgmental space where you are expected to show up with flaws and concerns to address and not feel the pressure of being perfect. College is supposed to be “the best years of your life,” right? So why does it sometimes feel like you’re stressed, overwhelmed, questioning everything, and running on caffeine and vibes? I work with college students and young adults who are trying to hold it all together — classes, relationships, family expectations, future plans — while quietly wondering, “Why does this feel so hard?” Anxiety, mood swings, burnout, breakups, identity questions, substance use, grief, big transitions… it’s a lot. And most people try to power through it way longer than they need to. You don’t have to have some perfectly organized explanation for why you’re struggling. If you’re overwhelmed, stuck, unmotivated, or just not feeling like yourself lately, that’s enough. You don’t need a five-point plan before reaching out. Therapy with me is grounded, supportive, and real. We’ll talk like actual humans. We’ll slow things down. We’ll figure out what’s going on underneath the stress without judgment or pressure to “fix” everything overnight. We move at your pace and focus on what feels most important to you. My goal is to help you feel more comfortable in your own head and body — so you can make decisions with clarity instead of panic, respond instead of react, and maybe even sleep a little better. You don’t have to white-knuckle your way through this chapter. Support counts.

Life can be difficult to maneuver. As multifaceted individuals we often carry a little weight in every one of our realms. These weights can be a result of the specific “trauma points” that we’ve held on to as our perspective has grown over time. Those points look like family conflict, life transitions, career stress, relational/personal redevelopment or many other reasons for why we may have crossed paths here today. Overall, how we engage with those points affects our relationship with healing. Whether we recognize it or not, we all could have used guidance through a period of suffering. Every doubt is an opportunity for growth. “As you start to walk along the way, the way appears…” Trusting the journey by learning through our opportunities for growth can align us with our highest possible outcomes. To do that, I use a few types of therapy such as EMDR, CBT, Solutions-Focused & Strength-Based learning techniques to help encourage an atmosphere where growth is focused & intentional. It could be helpful to remember that the journey is the process. As we learn ourselves through guided introspection we can gain insight into patterns that contribute to our daily habits. You are exactly where you’re supposed to be. My intention is to meet you where you are, with respects to your journey. I look forward to walking along the way with you.

I'm passionate about working with college students and recent grads. The transition from being a dependent to independent adult occurs rapidly while you're attending college and again once you graduate. It's common to experience anxiety and depression in the form of worrying about everything under the sun or feeling down more often than usual to simply feeling overwhelmed 24/7. I'm here to walk with you through those feelings, give you skills to cope with them, and process them along the way.
You are the expert on you. I simply seek to work alongside you as a collaborator in your personal growth, healing, and self-discovery. I am certified in EMDR, and I have knowledge and training in working with individuals with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and prenatal/postpartum concerns. We do serious work in session, but I approach my work with lightness, and I firmly believe that lightness lends itself to true connection, growth, and even laughter. I work primarily with adolescents and adults who face relationship challenges, complex trauma, and utilize an eclectic approach. I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with many of my clients who have experienced trauma.

Sara Pelaez is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Professional practicing in Georgia, Illinois, and Florida. She works with individuals and couples with a focus on students. Many of her clients have found great success in their personal and college lives, but struggle to feel connected in their relationships or at peace in their daily lives. Sara is particularly sensitive to clients facing present-past trauma, moments of transition, relationship or emotional issues when the delicate balance can seem to tremble, and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and self-doubt can emerge. Sara’s approach is rooted in EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Emotional Focus Therapy. These are evidence-based approaches that focus on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected so that they can begin to make a targeted change. It is a bottom-up/top-down approach that provides a 360 view of the client's inner world. She works to help clients understand their physical response to external stressors, and begin to problem-solve ways to introduce moments of calm, to choose to respond rather than react in the face of change. Sara is focused on ensuring that her clients see real progress: her style is interactive, non-judgmental, and positions clients as the experts on where they are now, and where they want to go. A trauma-informed therapist, Sara is sensitive to the influence of past experiences on present challenges and works closely with clients to reframe the narrative of their life in a way that increases self-confidence and compassion. Sara’s first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe, heard, and like an equal partner in the therapeutic process. As a seasoned telehealth provider, she offers the convenience of remote sessions to help make therapy a core component of your self-care calendar.
