John Schatzel, LICSW - President/Clinical Director I approach all clients where they are and look to develop treatment goals around the concept of a life worth living. I have received my training from the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, a Harvard Medical School Training Facility, during the course of my clinical training. There I worked in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team to assess, collaborate, and treat clients needs. During my time spent at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center and, through other professional roles, I have been able to work with the following clinical populations: Major Mental Illness, Substance Abuse, Co-Occurring Disorders, Personality Disorders, Mood Disorders, Phobic Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Trauma, Eating Disorders, Problematic Sexual Behavior, and Disorders of Identity. As a result of my work with these populations I have received specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which are change oriented, evidence based approaches which are highly effective in regards to the treatment of Trauma and the change of problematic behaviors. These modalities both teach and reinforce coping skills across various domains including: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Emotional Regulation. In addition to working with clients directly, I have been involved in research, publications, licensing, and program development. I was a granted researcher for the publication Desistance from Sexual Offending: Narratives of Retirement, Regulation and Recovery (Palgrave Studies in Risk, Crime and Society) in addition to being a chapter editor for All About Anxiety: An Introductory Guide to Neuroscience, Assessment, and Intervention. Ruolin Xie, LICSW - Individual Therapist Ruolin is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from Washington University in St. Louis. I do in person therapy in our Topsfield office, easily accessible to clients in the North Shore area. Charles Kim, LMHC - Individual Therapist Life is difficult. Unless you are an old soul, choices surrounding identity, self worth and acceptance, relationships/finding connection, and career choice are often painful and confusing. Even in the best of circumstances and family support, we are left with well meaning advice and our own limited self-understanding to guide choices that will affect the next season of life. I have over a decade of experience in residential and college counseling settings helping clients to explore their past to understand the motivations and traumas that led then to where they are and what if anything they want to change going forward. Clinically, I work with clients seeking to treat their depression, anxiety, relationship/career issues, and other areas of distress. I use a client centered, humanist/existential style to explore current distress while integrating behavioral interventions (TF-CBT, DBT) and classic insight oriented exploration. I offer a safe space to look at oneself gently. I believe true spiritual/personal growth is demonstrated in learning how to treat ourselves the way we treat our friends and those we love. If you're looking for a space to grow that part of yourself or to begin treatment for a long ignored pain/injury, please reach out for a free 15 minute consultation. I wish you all the best. Katie Duggan, MS - Individual Therapist As a dedicated mental health clinician with a focus on children and young adults, I am passionate about helping individuals navigate the intricate interplay between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. With a foundation in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) complemented by person-centered and psychoanalytic approaches, I strive to create a safe and supportive space where clients can feel heard and understood. My therapeutic philosophy centers on the belief that therapy should be a collaborative journey, where individuals feel empowered to explore their innermost thoughts and emotions in a non-judgmental environment. I view therapy as an invaluable outlet for self-exploration and growth, guiding clients towards healthier ways of coping and living authentically. I am committed to fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy, and respect, as I firmly believe that every individual deserves to feel validated and supported on their path towards healing and self-discovery. Deanna Maher, LCSW - Individual Therapist Deanna earned her MSW from Bridgewater State University and undergraduate degree in psychology from Boston University. Populations: Adults (anyone 18+) and especially enjoy working with young adults. In terms of presenting issues/diagnoses I am most interested in symptoms related to trauma or anxiety. I enjoy working with young adults who are looking to learn more about themselves and the behaviors they engage in. The world today can be very fast-paced, stressful, and overwhelming, and many people find themselves turning to substances as a way to cope. While this may provide relief initially, often it creates more long-term issues that affect mental/physical health, relationships, and overall quality of life. My work primarily involves supporting clients in clarifying their goals and values, and becoming more intentional about their habits in order to shape their lifestyle and identity in a way that feels authentic. I provide individual outpatient counseling and have experience working with adults of all ages, though find that I tend to work best with college students and young professionals. Substance use is the primary concern of clients I work with, and I take a holistic approach that incorporates my Masters-level training in mental health counseling. Recognizing the need for support and making the decision to reach out can be one of the most difficult parts of this process. I encourage you to get in touch, and we can discuss whether working together would be a good fit!

Welcome! It takes a lot of guts to look for a therapist and by doing so you’re already starting the hard work of healing. Every part of yourself is safe to exist in my therapy office: the scared, the angry, the perfectionist, the beautiful. My goal is to allow your whole self to feel seen and understood, without judgment. Clients have described me as approachable and having a healthy dose of humor. I lead my sessions with a warm, friendly, and empathetic demeanor. I’ll laugh with you, cry with you, challenge you, and support you through your difficult moments. I aim for our work to be a partnership. Together we can find ways to tame your harsh inner critic and establish skills to work through the hard stuff. We will approach your thoughts, feelings, and actions with a sense of curiosity and compassion. I specialize in art therapy and would love to utilize art in your therapeutic journey. Sometimes there aren't words to describe how you’re feeling and art can help find the words you've been struggling to say. Don’t worry, you don't have to be a talented artist – but it can be nice to have a physical representation of your emotions.

I identify as a neurodiverse (ND) autistic psychologist. Like many, I discovered at midlife I’m on the “invisible” end of the spectrum. I now specialize in assisting other ND/autistic adults & their allies as they a) explore identity/diagnosis, b) cope with ongoing life adjustments/ND burnout & c) make informed choices about how/when it is safe to “unmask.” I help clients: identify personal life/career-related challenges, build upon strengths, & make constructive changes to create a ‘right-sized’ life. I’m a multicultural-educated ally & offer affirming space for marginalized folx (BIPOC, LGBTQAI+, ENM/polyamory, differently-abled). 21+ years of clinical expertise in: private practice, Harvard Medical School postdoc, Penn State & Illinois State University counseling & career centers. I’m passionate about meeting clients where they’re at & providing psychoeducation. I encourage self-advocacy, clear communication, healthcare providers’ collaboration, & improved social support networks. We co-create sacred space that welcomes authentic sharing, tears, & laughter. I have an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) work with me; a calm sweet cat. Many people find a therapy animals’ presence comforting for co-regulation. Please share good days/times to reach you. I look forward to meeting you & learning about your journey! Warm regards, Dr. Naomi Dogan

I work with older teens and young adults who are typically struggling with more than one thing that leads to feeling really big emotions. A common co-occurrence is ADHD/Anxiety, but it could be any combination - mood disorder and autism, social anxiety and feeling angry all the time...having more than one thing at a time makes it more difficult to figure out what to do about those big emotions, which is where I come in. I help figure out what's going on, what are some tools that can help those emotions, and how you can start recognizing when that surge of emotion is coming before it becomes unmanageable.

My approach to treatment is to create a space that is supportive and empathetic so that the client will be in a place to build rapport, explore issues that are interfering with their quality of life, and develop a better sense of goals and the means to reach them. I operate from a Strength-based and Cognitive-behavioral therapy lens with elements of other modalities. I am a strong believer in using mindfulness when approaching issues like anxiety and depression. I see the client as a person affected by the systems that make up their lives. I understand the importance of family work as a part of the process of helping an individual. The most important aspect of treatment is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Without trust, it is impossible to get any real work done. When you walk into my office you can expect a space that is free of judgment and completely client-centered.

I have worked with college students struggling with a wide range of difficulties and acuity over the past decade plus, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. I have a casual yet professional style, and prioritize creating a warm, non-judgmental space where clients can increase awareness of their emotional and relational patterns. I pull from several orientations, including psychodynamic/relational, emotion-focused, CBT, acceptance-based, and compassion-based approaches in order to make sense of your difficulties with you and to identify ways to change, or as is the case in the many situations that we can’t change, learn to relate to it differently. My clients express appreciation for my transparent, collaborative, compassionate, and well-informed approach. I am interested and have experience in working with clients from diverse backgrounds, including racial and ethnic minorities. I try to understand clients in context and I seek to bring in societal issues and -isms to understand clients experiences in the world. I am open to talking about my own identity and position in society. I have openings for telehealth clients located in Massachusetts, NC, or any participating Psypact state. I accept Aetna in MA. I accept Aetna and BCBS in NC. Please email me if you would like to schedule a free initial call to answer any questions and assess whether we may be a good match.
