I specialize in working with college students and young adults, providing individual therapy in a collaborative partnership where we address your concerns and build strategies for growth and healing. Having served as a Staff Psychologist at University of Chicago Student Counseling Services, I developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges students face during this major life transition. I have extensive experience treating anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, and ADHD. My listening style is warm and interactive. I integrate psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and family systems approaches while staying attuned to contemporary social issues. Together, we'll identify patterns that aren't serving you, enhance your self-awareness and build resilience to create sustainable positive change.

“I want to feel happier and less depressed.” “We would like to improve our relationship.” “I would like to feel calmer and more in control, in spite of the stress, loss and trauma I have experienced.” “We want to help our children cope with our divorce.” “We need to figure out how we are going to live as a divorced family.” These are some of the most frequent goals of my clients as we work together. Many of the stresses and conflicts my clients face can be due to life’s experiences and losses or can come from within. Stress and conflict can lead to disintegration of relationships with our partners and our children, and even in how we view ourselves. Strengthening coping skills, emotional connection and intimacy can help repair fractures, increase compassionate understanding, and build closeness. Focusing on positive growth, shifting well-engrained patterns, and building greater self-acceptance can create lasting change and happiness. As a clinical psychologist with over 40 years of experience, I help adults, couples and families, by integrating many different therapeutic approaches to best fit my clients’ needs.

I am a clinical social worker and a psychoanalyst with 24 years of experience working in different clinical settings including college counseling center, hospital, community mental health clinic, and private practice. I enjoy working with people who want to learn more about themselves and wish to grow. Over the many years of doing my work, I have helped a wide range of individuals transform painful emotional patterns, grow in self-awareness, and create more meaningful lives. The length and the intensity of the therapy is determined by each patient. You might want to focus on a specific problem in your current life in short term psychodynamic psychotherapy, or you may choose to engage in more exploratory psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I also offer psychoanalysis. Although my orientation is psychoanalytic, I incorporate other treatment modalities and adapt my clinical style to individual needs. I am very familiar with the emotional stressors of academic life as a clinician and a former academic. Before training as a psychoanalyst, I taught Russian literature, Polish literature and Polish film at UMass/Amherst. In my clinical work, I enjoy working with undergraduate and graduate students and individuals from different cultural backgrounds. I accept all PPOs and will help you submit claims to your insurance for reimbursement.

Your present need not be your future! Life isn’t always easy. Today you may be anxious, depressed, stuck, overwhelmed, flunking out, and/or obsessed. Tomorrow can be different. The path to a better future may involve courageously exploring emotions or it may involve learning and practicing new habits or strategies. Sometimes little changes cause dramatic results. My specialty is working with you to determine what will work best for you. To this task I bring great depth and breadth of experience. I was actually a college dropout before I became a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist after first becoming an Educational & Career Counselor & then applying my knowledge & skills on myself. I’ve been in private practice as a therapist for over 30 years, have consulted to hospitals for decades as a Clinical Neuropsychologist, taught the graduate course Neuropsychology to psychology doctoral students for 18 years, created the graduate course Nutrition, Brain and Behavior, provided lectures on neuropsychology for medical students and residents through Harvard Medical School’s Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and created many continuing education courses for psychologists and lectured college counselors nationwide on improving college performance. I’ve done thousands of assessments encompassing ADHD, learning disability, autism, memory disorders, executive dysfunction, anxiety disorders and depression, yet, despite this I do not think in terms of these labels. Most sessions begin with screening not to assign a diagnosis but determination of the type of psychotherapy or lifestyle changes with which you are likely to feel most comfortable. Take the first step towards a better tomorrow.

About My Practice My practice is centered around helping individuals work through the emotional challenges that leave them feeling stuck. I know that reaching out for help can be a vulnerable step, and I’m here to support you as you navigate your unique dilemmas. Together, we’ll explore what’s weighing on you and find a path toward healing and relief. My Approach With over six years of experience in the field, my practice has been influenced by Compassionate Inquiry, developed by Gabor Maté, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. These approaches help you understand and connect with yourself more deeply. Through Compassionate Inquiry, we’ll uncover the root causes of your challenges, leading to greater self-acceptance and clarity. IFS allows you to connect with different parts of yourself, helping to heal inner conflicts and promote self-compassion. Healing and Growth I’m dedicated to helping you connect with your core self while releasing the burdens that hold you back. Many people struggle with self-worth, self-control, and the weight of past experiences. My approach helps those trapped in destructive patterns attain more flexibility and freedom. Within the safety of our relationship, you can begin to let go of pain and find relief in the present from whatever has been burdening you. How We Will Work Everybody thinks and feels at their own speed. We will spend as much time as needed to find a pace and flow that works well for you. As we do, we will explore your inner resources and develop practical tools for navigating life’s challenges. This journey can lead to a more authentic life filled with meaningful relationships and a renewed sense of possibility. Along the way, I will do all that I can to create a welcoming space where you can share your experiences without judgment while feeling truly seen.

Making the first call is sometimes the hardest part of the therapeutic process. I commend you for your strength and courage in seeking help. One of the most important steps of pursuing counseling is finding a passionate, knowledgeable, and trusting therapist that you feel comfortable with. One that will sit with you through your difficult moments and help you to recognize or remind you of your strength. If a mood disorder or anxiety is taking control of your life, I can help you to learn how to manage it. If you are experiencing challenges with your significant other(s), friends, family members I can help you to improve the connection, understanding, and intimacy. Do you just need someone to check in with, someone to vent to in a judgment-free environment, a place to chat about and figure out all of the challenging transitions in your life? I am here for you, holding space for you, rooting for you, encouraging you, holding you accountable if needed, and empowering you. Do you or your partner have concerns about sexual issues including but not limited to; sexual desire/arousal, interests, orientation, impulsivity, compulsivity, erectile functioning, trouble reaching orgasm, painful intercourse, intimacy issues related to disability or chronic condition, or concerns regarding past unwanted sexual experiences? For over 25 years I have worked as a social worker, life coach and therapist with children, adolescents and adults. Since I was a child I knew that I wanted to be a counselor helping others in their time of need. At some point in life's journey you may experience a time where you feel you may benefit from some extra support and guidance, let me help you on the road to hope and healing. I believe in a mutual therapeutic relationship working together as a team towards the client's goals. Starting therapy and sharing issues that have become challenging is a hard and yet courageous step in your healing process. As a therapist I am honored to be able to share in this journey and hold the emotions that come with this. I consider myself to be an eclectic therapist, taking into consideration the individuals uniqueness and needs before implementing techniques and strategies. I use an honest and direct approach in a non-judgemental and compassionate way. With the help of different modalities CBT, Mindfulness, Solution Focused and EMDR I can help you find a path toward inner peace and joy.
