Anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders ARE treatable. I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life transitions when fear, panic, and OCD interfere with daily functioning and longer-term progress. With compassion and experience, I aim to empower you to overcome obstacles, develop resilience, and achieve emotional well-being. I use evidence-based treatments of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP), as well as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to help you experience symptom relief and work toward future goals. I have a particular interest in women’s mental health, recognizing the immense physical and emotional challenges that accompany pregnancy, motherhood, and menopause. Having raised three children of my own (ages 17, 21, and 23), I have developed a mature perspective on problem-solving and empowering other women toward strength and adaptability. I offer support to parents around parenthood, raising young children and teenagers, and approaching and managing “empty” nests. I also have experience working with children and adolescents struggling with acute anxiety. I hold an undergraduate degree from Cornell University and am pursuing my Master’s degree in Social Work at Boston College. I am committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those around me and have a long-standing dedication to community and volunteer work.

College can be one of the most exciting chapters of your life, but also one of the most overwhelming. Between academic pressure, relationship changes, identity exploration, family dynamics, and the constant push to “have it all together,” it’s easy to feel stretched thin or even lost. I’m Theresa, a licensed therapist who specializes in helping college students just like you find clarity, balance, and real coping tools in the midst of it all. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, stress, depression, burnout, or just need a safe space to unpack life, this space was created with you in mind. Therapy isn’t about having a diagnosis, it’s about having a space. A space where you can be honest without judgment, process what’s heavy, and learn how to thrive, not just survive. If you’re ready to feel more like you, let’s talk. You don’t have to figure this all out on your own.

The following are some common examples: perfectionism, social anxiety, body dysmorphia, health anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic attacks, trichotillomania, and hoarding. We offer individual therapy and also have a biweekly Adult OCD Support Group. I believe that everyone has the strength and resilience already in themselves to overcome challenges, navigate difficult circumstances, and have meaningful connections with others. My approach to therapy is strength-based, holistic, and largely focuses on using mindfulness-based techniques and practices. In the last 14 years I have had the privilege to work with a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, identities, and lived experiences. I've had the privilege to work with first generation college students, international students, adult learners pursuing a second career, and younger students adjusting to independent life and college for the first time. In the past 4 years I have specialized in in working with college and graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in the health sciences field. I understand how challenging it can be to navigate these stressful times and how difficult it can be to find a balance between taking care of yourself and reaching your academic potential. It can get better and I'd like to help.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
South Portland, ME

Many people I work with describe their struggles with self-doubt, persistent worries, irrational fears, and "overthinking" tendencies, saying that they second-guess themselves and struggle to quiet their anxious thoughts. Often, these struggles are a result of past traumatic events that have shaped how the brain perceives the world. Other times, these struggles may trace back to unhelpful messaging from outside sources, which can result in learned behaviors, patterns, and ways of thinking that promote anxiety, worry, and shame. I use modalities such as EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, and CBT to support clients with these struggles. Therapy can support us to uncover and understand the impacts that traumas and other past events have on how we navigate the world. This awareness, coupled with therapeutic interventions, can support us to heal from past hardships and make changes to the learned survival techniques that are no longer serving us. Those who work with me describe me as compassionate, accepting, and interactive in my approach, and I strive to create a comfortable and judgment-free environment for my clients. I offer online scheduling, specialized, evidence-based approaches, and brief, no-cost phone consultations. I encourage you to reach out to see if working together may be a good fit!

Hi there — I'm glad you're here. I work with thoughtful, high-achieving students who seem like they have it all together on the outside but are quietly exhausted on the inside. You might be the friend everyone counts on, the one who never says “no,” even when you're running on empty. Maybe you’re stuck in a cycle of overthinking, overworking, and still feeling like it’s never enough. College life can feel like a nonstop pressure cooker — but it doesn’t have to be this hard. My approach is holistic, down-to-earth, and focused on helping you feel more like yourself again. I blend tools from CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Somatic Therapy to help you better understand your stress, listen to your body’s cues, and build coping strategies that actually work for you. Let’s connect for a free consult and see if we’re a good fit. You don’t have to figure this all out alone.
