Is anxiety or depression getting in the way of the life that you want to lead? Do you want to move towards independence but feel confused or overwhelmed? Are you questioning your sexuality or gender identity? I am here to help. I offer a calming, nonjudgmental presence providing support and helping you to learn new ways of overcoming the difficulties that you face. My approach is client-centered and I am continually impressed with the strength and resilience of the clients that I work with. I work with adults (18 and up) but particularly enjoy working with young adults transitioning to independence and LGBTQIA people. It can be frightening to reach out for assistance, especially if you have not been in therapy before. I have been told by past clients that my calm demeanor and gentle approach have helped them to overcome their reservations and fully engage in the healing process.

Do you worry about the future? Would you describe yourself as having difficulty with perfectionism, relationships with family & friends, social anxiety or identity? We are a small practice with two therapists--Spencer & Carlie who love providing therapy to young adults as they navigate this exciting and nerve wracking time moving from childhood and dependence to adulthood and independence. We often work with young adults who may have had therapy in high school but did not previously find therapy helpful (often due to a lack of agency in picking their therapist, misunderstanding or invalidation of their experiences, disruptions in confidentiality or lack of concrete coping skills/goals worked on). We provide a reparative experience where clients feel genuinely supported and able to advocate and ask for what they need. We use a variety of different therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal-Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment Based Therapy, EMDR, Goal-oriented Therapy and Mindfulness. Our clients often move towards a feeling of confidence, improved relationships and belief in their abilities to handle any challenges that may come their way.

Hello! I’m a trauma-informed psychodynamic therapist with clinical experience covering a wide range of issues in adolescence and adulthood. I am well-versed in working with people experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma recovery/PTSD, grief, relationship and communication issues, intimate partner violence, out-of-control behaviors, problematic substance use, and school/work stress. I will support you in finding deeper feelings of fulfillment, ease, self-alignment, and possibility in your life. I work primarily with college students and people in the years after they leave or graduate college. Changes in social life, feeling a part of something bigger or not, family dynamics, and/or figuring out work can be tough on top of whatever you were already dealing with. The political moment brings feelings of despair, rage, and loneliness. People I work with are deeply affected. You don’t have to figure everything out alone. I work well with individuals of all backgrounds. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and with years of experience in non-monogamous relationship structures, I work with many queer and trans people and people in non-monogamous relationships. I deeply respect the unique lives of the individuals I work with, and I love to witness their progress toward their goals. My therapy approach is psychodynamic - grounded in the understanding that past experiences influence us consciously and unconsciously. I use a strengths-based, whole-person perspective, and I also offer skills and tools using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) depending on your goals for therapy. I work alongside you in a process of exploration and meaning making. You can expect me to be warm, humorous, genuine, and straight-forward. I would love to hear from you.

Hi, I’m Ben Borkan, and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Gestalt Therapist. I primarily work with couples using Crucible® Therapy and Gestalt Therapy. However, I occasionally see individuals who are looking to work on their own relationships. I did not initially start out seeing couples. I began my career in wilderness therapy, where I guided groups of young adults and saw the impact of social relationships on individuals’ development, both from family systems and also in the healing work that can be accomplished in a group setting. My work in wilderness therapy inspired me to pursue clinical social work at Smith College School for Social Work where I received my MSW. In the past decade I have worked in a variety of settings, practicing various modalities with individuals, couples, families and groups. Therapy combines both my passion for learning and my desire to help others grow. Gestalt and Crucible Therapy are two approaches I find most empowering both personally and professionally. While different, each approach is strengths-based and takes a holistic and real view of people, and how relationships and marriage work. They are also backed with research and evidence that supports their effectiveness in helping people with their relationships. I received my Certificate in Gestalt Therapy at Gestalt Institute of the Rockies in Golden, CO where I learned how to work with people, including myself, to rewire obstacles to authenticity and intimacy. More recently, I began training in Crucible® Therapy; an approach that incorporates neuroscience to help people move past projections, behaviors, and thoughts that inhibit intimacy. I take pride in the work I do and do “the work” from these approaches in my personal life. I want to share what I have learned to help people experience similar sustained and meaningful change in their relationships.

We all go through phases in life. Some days are sunny and some others with a lot of rain and storm. Anxiety, depression, life transitions,pre-postpartum anxiety&depression, difficulty focusing, and relationship problems with loved ones and/or in a professional setting are only a few of the problems every person deals in their life at some point. Even though they are part of our nature, these symptoms could be very overwhelming. I am trained in talk therapy which focuses on resolving deeper issues, to understand one’s patterns and character, relief symptoms and improve interpersonal relationships. Every person is unique, so are their needs and preferences. We will work together to make your journey more meaningful and free from suffering. I take your financial situation into consideration. I have a sliding scale which makes therapy affordable and available to everyone! Send me an email, you don’t need to deal with this alone!

Whether you are at a crossroads in your life, feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or sensing your life is not what it could be, help is available. As helpers, we are committed to meeting you exactly where you are by using our collection of professional tools to assist you to reach your highest potential through connection to your “true” self, the part of you who is waiting to be rediscovered and made manifest. Our orientation as therapists combines our understanding of human development, psychology, and behavioral change with wisdom and practice that is woven through most spiritual traditions. You need not consider yourself a spiritual person, nor do we insist on a particular belief system. This is only to say that our orientation integrates this awareness as an element of healing. Our ultimate goal is to empower you to free yourself from the patterns that keep you from fully thriving and to help you create the life you want to be living. It is an act of courage, not weakness, to allow others to help you.

The clients I work with are often creative, sensitive people-pleasers who are feeling overwhelmed and alone. They’re struggling with their relationships and figuring out who they are and where they fit. Life is exhausting, as they second-guess every word that comes out of their mouth. The noise of everyone else’s expectations makes it impossible to sort out what they really want. With a compassionate and playful approach, we will break down your fears while uncovering what gives you strength, what lights you up, and what helps you feel confident.

Making the first call is sometimes the hardest part of the therapeutic process. I commend you for your strength and courage in seeking help. One of the most important steps of pursuing counseling is finding a passionate, knowledgeable, and trusting therapist that you feel comfortable with. One that will sit with you through your difficult moments and help you to recognize or remind you of your strength. If a mood disorder or anxiety is taking control of your life, I can help you to learn how to manage it. If you are experiencing challenges with your significant other(s), friends, family members I can help you to improve the connection, understanding, and intimacy. I am here for you, holding space for you, rooting for you, encouraging you, holding you accountable if needed, and empowering you. Do you or your partner have concerns about sexual issues including but not limited to; sexual desire/arousal, interests, orientation, impulsivity, compulsivity, erectile functioning, trouble reaching orgasm, painful intercourse, intimacy issues related to disability or chronic condition, or concerns regarding past unwanted sexual experiences? Feeling anxious? You are not alone. It can be easy to end up feeling overwhelmed, uncertain and depressed - The pressures of relationships, school or work, family, friends all seem to pile up - and then taking care of yourself ends up on the bottom of the priority list. At Movemental Wellbeing, my approach is to help create a calm space where the anxiety and overwhelm don't have such a profound hold on you. One of the best strategies I know to do this is to find opportunities to go outside with clients, to go for a walk, and to feel connected and understood. Many of my colleagues and clients describe me as having a calm and compassionate presence, and that is the foundation of my work with you. Beyond that, I also believe that therapy doesn't have to be hard all the time. I like to find moments of humor, fun, joy and play and to make sessions experiential and movement-based to support all aspects of you. If the typical version of therapy (sitting and talking) doesn't feel like the best way for you to do this work, let's try something different. I'm committed to making therapy engaging, insightful and thought-provoking (and even fun). If this sounds like a refreshing approach that you might be interested in trying, please schedule a free consult call!

If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, lonely, or unsure of yourself, you’re not alone — and I’m really glad you’re here. So many college students and young adults struggle with anxiety, depression, sleep issues, relationship stress, or feeling uncomfortable in their own skin. It can be exhausting to carry all of that by yourself. In our work together, you’ll have a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly, breathe a little easier, and feel seen without judgment. I’m a therapist who genuinely loves helping people understand themselves and feel more grounded in their lives. Sometimes that means learning practical tools to ease anxiety or shift unhelpful patterns. Other times it’s having a quiet, steady place to sit with your feelings and figure out what you truly want. My background includes an undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and master’s degrees in Public Health and Social Work from Tulane University and Westfield State University. My approach draws from psychodynamic therapy, CBT, and DBT, and I blend these methods in a way that feels natural, supportive, and tailored to you. Above all, I want you to feel safe, understood, and hopeful about the changes you’re working toward. This is a space for you — to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and move forward with more confidence and clarity.
