Hello! My name is Angela, and I am glad you are here! College can be a stressful time for a lot of people, so if you are feeling overwhelmed or just in need of some support, you are not alone. I typically work with clients who are experiencing some level of anxiety, stress/overwhelm, difficulty adjusting, and/or ADHD (whether diagnosed or questioning). You can expect a casual, welcoming environment in our sessions, where you can show up authentically, no matter what life has thrown your way that week! Sessions take place via telehealth, and I am licensed in both NJ and MA. I take some insurances through Headway, and can provide superbills for those with out of network benefits.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Belfast, ME

Hi, I’m Ben Borkan, and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Gestalt Therapist. I primarily work with couples using Crucible® Therapy and Gestalt Therapy. However, I occasionally see individuals who are looking to work on their own relationships. I did not initially start out seeing couples. I began my career in wilderness therapy, where I guided groups of young adults and saw the impact of social relationships on individuals’ development, both from family systems and also in the healing work that can be accomplished in a group setting. My work in wilderness therapy inspired me to pursue clinical social work at Smith College School for Social Work where I received my MSW. In the past decade I have worked in a variety of settings, practicing various modalities with individuals, couples, families and groups. Therapy combines both my passion for learning and my desire to help others grow. Gestalt and Crucible Therapy are two approaches I find most empowering both personally and professionally. While different, each approach is strengths-based and takes a holistic and real view of people, and how relationships and marriage work. They are also backed with research and evidence that supports their effectiveness in helping people with their relationships. I received my Certificate in Gestalt Therapy at Gestalt Institute of the Rockies in Golden, CO where I learned how to work with people, including myself, to rewire obstacles to authenticity and intimacy. More recently, I began training in Crucible® Therapy; an approach that incorporates neuroscience to help people move past projections, behaviors, and thoughts that inhibit intimacy. I take pride in the work I do and do “the work” from these approaches in my personal life. I want to share what I have learned to help people experience similar sustained and meaningful change in their relationships.

Whether you are at a crossroads in your life, feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or sensing your life is not what it could be, help is available. As helpers, we are committed to meeting you exactly where you are by using our collection of professional tools to assist you to reach your highest potential through connection to your “true” self, the part of you who is waiting to be rediscovered and made manifest. Our orientation as therapists combines our understanding of human development, psychology, and behavioral change with wisdom and practice that is woven through most spiritual traditions. You need not consider yourself a spiritual person, nor do we insist on a particular belief system. This is only to say that our orientation integrates this awareness as an element of healing. Our ultimate goal is to empower you to free yourself from the patterns that keep you from fully thriving and to help you create the life you want to be living. It is an act of courage, not weakness, to allow others to help you.

Considering treatment/support related to sexual health and satisfaction? My specialties are as follows: Sex Offender Treatment & Problematic Sexual Behaviors; MAP support; Gender Identity; Sexual Trauma; BDSM/Kink; Fetishes; Cross-Dressing; Monogamous and Non-Monogamous Relationships; Body Image; and Compulsive Sexual Behaviors/Pornography use. In regard to style, I'm a warm and engaging therapist who believes that humor and laughter (when appropriate) can be some of the best medicine. I've been working with young adults for the better part of the last decade within the context of their homes, schools, communities and families. I have also been supervising young adults as well as older adults in juggling school work and family with their career ambitions. Fostering growth for these folks, including in many marginalized communities is, to me, an incredibly important part of building lives worth living, and growing the strength of our communities. As a white cis-gendered queer therapist I have done my own work on my identity that has allowed me to see and show up for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks, as well as supporting other white folks in this work. My practice is rooted in anti-racism, anti-oppression, and health equity. Our mental health is not only our individual biologies and brains, we are shaped by the systems we exist within and this has a direct correlation to our physical well being as well. What you need in therapy may or may not relate to issues of oppression, and it is important for those for whom this is relevant to know there is a space to been seen and acknowledged for the ways this impacts your life. Growth and transitions can be incredible, and also very stressful. If anything you've read here or seen in my profile resonates. I would encourage you to reach out to see if we would be a good fit for the support you are seeking.

Do you worry about the future? Would you describe yourself as having difficulty with perfectionism, relationships with family & friends, social anxiety or identity? We are a small practice with two therapists--Spencer & Carlie who love providing therapy to young adults as they navigate this exciting and nerve wracking time moving from childhood and dependence to adulthood and independence. We often work with young adults who may have had therapy in high school but did not previously find therapy helpful (often due to a lack of agency in picking their therapist, misunderstanding or invalidation of their experiences, disruptions in confidentiality or lack of concrete coping skills/goals worked on). We provide a reparative experience where clients feel genuinely supported and able to advocate and ask for what they need. We use a variety of different therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal-Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment Based Therapy, EMDR, Goal-oriented Therapy and Mindfulness. Our clients often move towards a feeling of confidence, improved relationships and belief in their abilities to handle any challenges that may come their way.
