Taking the first step on your healing journey can be difficult. Whether you're seeking therapy to process trauma, navigate difficult relationships, or to overcome life’s daily challenges, I'm happy you're here exploring your options and taking that first step. Throughout my career, I've worked with clients experiencing a wide range of these challenges including sexual and physical abuse, family conflict, relationship struggles, intimacy challenges, identity work, anxiety and depression. I am certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). While I have several years of training in these modalities, I hold a strong belief that treatment should be individualized for each client. I believe you have the capacity to find healing, but you shouldn't have to navigate it alone. My goal is to partner with you on your journey no matter the challenge you are facing. Finding a therapist can feel exhausting so when you're ready, I hope you will reach out with any questions to see if I'm the therapist for you.
Everyone struggles from time to time and it's important to be validated and understood without judgment. I began my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) later in life, and I have great passion for the work I do with my clients. I have 8 years of experience as a therapist for children/teens, adults, and families. I have worked in out-patient, school-based, in-home, and community settings. For individual and family therapy, I use a client-based, relational approach that focuses on positive communication, mutual respect, and active listening skills. I enjoy collaborating with clients on goals. I have a strong background in trauma and in providing services for at-risk teens and young adults. I offer counseling for mood and personality disorders, grief and loss, separation/divorce and family issues, as well as for medically based diagnoses, such as ADHD, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and cancer. My style is person-centered and eclectic, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and solution-focused interventions. I also enjoy providing group therapy for children, teens, and adults, and I believe that each group is an opportunity for growth, connection, and validation.

Anxiety is complicated - its like the house guest that shows up unannounced and doesn't know when to leave. Anxiety can sabotage picture perfect moments and sometimes prevent opportunities from even getting off the ground. Other times, it allows us to recognize when we're in danger and helps us spring into action. How do you know when anxiety is serving you well or setting you up? My clients often seek therapy to manage anxiety because they no longer want anxiety taking them by surprise. They want to manage their anxiety in a healthy way, so that they can enjoy their lives. Together, we work towards creating a game plan that works best for you to achieve anxiety relief. Anxiety can go unnoticed for a long-time, especially in a college setting where high-performance is expected. We will talk about how high-functioning anxiety shows up in your life. Procrastination and avoidance paired with perfectionism is a winning combination for someone to misallocate their energy and efforts and burnout in the process. If this rings true to you, I would be honored to chat with you about I can help you live your life with a little more ease.

Paul specializes in using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help people work through the pain and suffering that comes along with living a fully human life. The idea is not that you are broken, messed up, and need to be fixed, nor is it about what is wrong with you. The approach taken is more about what has happened to you to bring you to where you are today. The primary focus of using ACT is to find a healthier more workable way to respond to all of the painful thoughts, emotions, memories, and physical sensations we experience as humans, and then channel that pain into building a thriving life that is worthy of who we are. Paul engages in this work from a place of compassion, patience, and unconditional positive regard that sees people as they are and not as their struggles or past mistakes.
