Are you new to therapy, have you tried it before without finding the right fit, or perhaps you are looking for a new approach? My name is Gus Culbertson (he/him/his) and I am a Clinical Social Worker. I started Balancing Perspectives Practice because I believe that when we take an intentional look at the perspectives we hold about ourselves and the world around us, and then make this into a practice, it can allow us to lean into our most authentic and balanced selves. I am here to support clients in finding a good-fit therapist. I have worked for a number of years to understand the unique challenges faced by young adults, medical and health science students & professionals, and front-line workers. I also work with individuals navigating life transitions, unhelpful self-expectations, procrastination, depression, anxiety, and identity struggles. Many of those I work with want to learn how to engage intentionally with the range of emotions, communicate effectively with others, decrease stress, incorporate mindful/spiritual practices, and explore differing perspectives. I am a firm believer in the power of the therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for change. My approach is tailored to each client and is rooted in a values-based, emotion-focused, and mindful practice. If you are ready to begin this journey, please contact me for a free consultation. I initially work with clients to outline their goals in care to see if we might be a good fit to work together in individual therapy. If we are, I look forward to working together to help you recognize your strengths, build resilience, and cultivate authenticity to find the fulfillment you deserve. If, for whatever reason we are not, I can support you in finding the right fit through my services as a Clinical Care Manager. This is of note if you would like assistance in finding a therapist who is in-network with your insurance.
I have a passion for working with people who want to live more fulfilling lives with a more genuine connection to themselves and others. My clients feel more empowered in their actions and relationships instead of letting their unhelpful thoughts and behaviors take over, while growing a more accepting and compassionate perspective towards themselves. It’s always a good session when my clients feel challenged and motivated to work towards their goals between sessions. I believe that much of the therapy work is completed between sessions just as much as it is in the hour minutes we will spend together each week. As a therapist, I’m not afraid of bearing witness to your pain and fear while finding ways to recognize joy and hope. I truly believe in each of my clients’ ability to grow and change. As an Exposure-based therapist, I’ll encourage you to take steps to approach your fears and reclaim your life. As a woman of color, I am sensitive to the ways that identity and mental health intersect and impact each other. I take an action-oriented and direct approach. Therapy is an investment in YOU, and I value all that my clients put into this work. I aim to “work myself out of a job” with each client, because I know that the goal isn’t to stay in treatment forever– it’s to live happier and healthier lives.

Finding a therapist that fits what you need can be tedious, but I encourage you to ask as many questions as you need to make sure you're getting the support that you're looking for! A bit about me: I did my schooling out in Southern California, before working in Texas, Oklahoma and now Pennsylvania. I am based out of Pennsylvania and I provide telehealth therapy for adolescents and adults residing in the state. I have worked well with clients who experience adjustment and identity struggles, cultural, immigration and race-related stress, sexual assault, eating disorders, depression, anxiety and family/interpersonal conflict. I use an integration of attachment theory, structural family therapy, cognitive- and dialectical-behavioral interventions. I also consider biological and ecological influences in my work in order to provide culturally-aware and holistic treatment to my clients. I strive to be an ally to clients with immigrant, BIPOC, Hispanic/Latinx and LGBTQ+ identities. Having worked in outpatient clinics and universities throughout the country, I have a deep respect and connect well with clients from all walks of life. I believe that we all have had experiences that shape our sense of the world and impact our relationships with others. My approach to therapy involves exploring how past experiences impact the present and helping my clients use those insights to make active, positive, and healthy changes around their sense of self and in their relationships. In the years I've been providing therapy, I have maintained a generalist practice, working with individuals facing a range of challenges. My areas of speciality are in working with women in life transitions, working with individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, and working with individuals experiencing issues around sexuality and relationship functioning. I am a sex-positive therapist with an open and accepting worldview about the infinite range of human sexual desire and expression. Using techniques from narrative therapy, interpersonal therapy, and psychodynamic therapy, as well as more directive approaches, I will work with you in creating a therapy experience that is completely individualized. My understanding is that no two people are alike, and, therefore, therapy is a uniquely co-created experience.

My passion for this work stems from my own struggles with mental health throughout my life. I know firsthand how important it is to have the proper support. I identify with the LGBTQIA+, kink/BDSM, and poly/ENM communities, so I am familiar with the unique issues facing these marginalized communities, and also the struggle to find a safe space to express your unique self when seeking help. Whether the issues you are seeking therapy for are directly related to your identity or not, you can freely be yourself in our sessions and let your guard down. You will not have to expend the emotional labor to educate me about your identity(ies). I provide a safe space, while clarifying your goals and desired outcome for therapy. I tailor my approach to your unique needs. However you identify, I will meet you where you are at on your personal journey, and together we can work to figure out how you can live your most authentic life. Change does not happen overnight. It requires time, patience, and a willingness to be vulnerable. If you are ready to take the first step today, I would love to hear from you so we can get started! I specialize in working with individuals in their 20s and 30s who are experiencing challenges in their lives or just trying to understand themselves better.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over ten years of experience working as a dynamic psychotherapist. I am a deeply empathic therapist, whose warmth and humor help to create a safe environment for self-exploration, growth and empowerment. Together with my clients, I work to forge a new story about themselves and the world that comes from a place of strength and acceptance. I aim to help my clients live a richer life, engage in more fulfilling relationships with themselves and others, and embrace opportunities. I have worked extensively with people recovering from addictions and trauma. I am certified in couples and family therapy, and work with families coping with addiction. I enjoy working individually with women on self-development. Areas of interest: trauma, loss, anxiety, depression, life transitions, young adulthood, exploring family and childhood. The struggles of transition to young adulthood are of particular interest to me. This time of life is so full of possibility; simultaneously exciting and scary. I have a great deal of experience working with students, as my office is minutes from the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University.
Hi! I’m Kimberly Carlin, LPC, and I work with women over 18 who want support navigating the ups and downs of life. Between work, relationships, family responsibilities, and personal growth, it’s normal to feel stressed, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to cope. I help women work through: * Anxiety, stress, and burnout * Relationship challenges and setting boundaries * Trauma or emotional abuse * Grief or major life transitions * Body image and disordered eating * Pressure to be “perfect” or meet high expectations * Life transitions such as parenting, career changes, or caregiving responsibilities Here’s what therapy with me looks like: CBT: Helps you spot unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier ones. ACT: Teaches you to accept feelings and focus on what matters most. Somatic Therapy: Uses your body to release stored stress, tension, and anxiety. IFS (Internal Family Systems): Helps you explore different parts of yourself and understand conflicting thoughts, emotions, or behaviors. Inner Child Work: Helps you understand how past experiences shape your feelings today. EMDR: A specialized approach that helps painful memories feel less overwhelming. Christian Counseling and Prayer (optional): For women who desire, therapy can integrate Biblical principles, prayer, and exploring God’s perspective of who you are to guide healing, self-worth, and decision-making. I provide online therapy and am licensed in multiple states, so you can continue care even if you travel, work remotely or move. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel understood, gain clarity, and build tools to navigate life with more confidence, self-compassion, and faith-based guidance if desired. Whether you’re feeling stressed, struggling with relationships, wanting to process trauma, or navigating major life transitions, I’m here to support you. We practice Systemic Marriage & Family therapy, with specialized training in Sex Therapy. We utilize evidence based methods such as CBT, and Mindfulness therapy. I offer primarily neuropsychological assessment to provide diagnostic clarity and to help you better understand how your brain functions. This may help you better understand your own unique way of learning, interacting with others, and handling life's challenges. With that enhanced understanding, you can more effectively take steps to improve your daily functioning and live a better and more fulfilling life. I do offer therapy for individuals dealing primarily with the challenges of life stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem. I also have extensive experience working with and helping those struggling with chronic health concerns and head injury related concerns.
*Update 3.26.20: “Social distancing” need not interrupt or delay therapy. Many therapists (including myself) are providing telepsych (remote/distance) sessions via phone or video-call during this uncertain and surreal time. Many of us (including myself) have also lowered our student rates. You don’t need to hire me, but if you’re struggling, please connect with *somebody*. Now back to my regularly scheduled profile;) Hi! So, you’re checking out therapist profiles and considering therapy. Good move. Sometimes, talking with friends and family just isn’t enough. Maybe your mood, anxiety, relationships, use, or self- harm has gotten worse? I’m sorry you’re struggling - though you came to the right place. Really. Therapy can help you feel less overwhelmed and less stuck; break self-destructive relationship patterns and behaviors; take better care of yourself; get substance use under better control; and .... really, anything *you* want to address. For more than 20 years, I’ve worked with adolescents and young adults struggling with school, relationships, ADHD, grief, anxiety, depression, self-injury, substance use, and most anything else you can imagine. I am passionate about my work - most especially my work with your age group. My niece dubbed me a “teenaged grownup”. I didn’t argue:) Here are some “reviews” by real clients: *easy to talk to and approachable *Understands the student experience and WCU culture * she gets what it’s like to be my age in the 2000s * She’s pretty funny sometimes * she treats me like a real person *very accepting and non-judgmental; I can talk with her about super sensitive stuff. *She cares. I trust her. You can learn more about me and my practice on my website. If we decide to work together, know this: I am honest, sincere, and direct. I will never impose my agenda or beliefs on you. I want to help you become the best version of yourself. You needn’t see *me* But, if you’re struggling, please try at least a few sessions with *somebody* The best therapy takes place in a relationship in which you feel heard, respected, and safe. Please don’t settle for anything less. Best, Amy
