Hello! I’m Amber. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and my training is strengths-based, trauma informed, and recovery-perspective grounded. I have practiced extensively with individuals and families working to make treatment a collaborative process. I specialize in the field of eating disorders treating adolescents and adults, individuals and families. In addition to treating eating disorders, I am also passionate about working with those experiencing challenges related to anxiety, depression, pre/post-natal, life transitions, self-esteem, self-growth and goal setting. My passion being a therapist is informed by the many transitions in my life. I bring much of who I am into my work and like to establish a genuine, deep, and unconditional relationship with my clients. I believe in the power of deep connection to transform and shape our lives. My approach embodies authenticity, humor, empathy, and honesty. I am your biggest fan and I am also the person who will empower you to grow into yourself. Hey! I'm Dr. V with a New Genesis. I have a passion for working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have over 10 years experience working in the mental health field. My goal is to connect with those I come in contact with because this journey is a team effort. I believe that healthy communication is the key in any relationship, including the therapeutic one. You deserve to feel heard and be heard.
Creating change can be an uncomfortable process, and it can help to have someone accompany you on your journey to a more authentic life. I work best with adults who are ready to engage in the sometimes challenging but deeply rewarding process of personal growth and healing. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, chronic health conditions, or co-occurring disorders, and are seeking meaningful change in their lives. I also have a strong understanding of the unique pressures faced by healthcare professionals and experience providing care for those involved with the Pennsylvania Nurse Peer Assistance Program (PNAP). I specialize in treating dual diagnosis and and I have specific experience working with substance use/chemical addictions and chronic health conditions. CBT and ACT are my primary modalities, however they are not the only interventions I use. Whatever interventions are used, the ideal outcome is to create sustainable, healthy change for individuals. I especially value working with individuals who are open to exploring their experiences, who may feel stuck but are willing to reflect, grow, and lean into their strengths. If you're looking for a grounded, compassionate, and collaborative space to sort through life’s complexities, we may be a good fit.
I am pleased that you are here. I know it is not easy to take this first step, but I want you to know first and foremost, that I take great care and pride in creating a safe place for my clients to talk about their internal conflicts, interpersonal problems, traumas, and whatever is interfering with living a fuller, richer life. I bring to my clinical practice a great deal of skills coupled with passion to engage in a meaningful therapeutic relationship. I invite clients to increase their self-awareness while aspiring to high levels of wellness: biologically, psychologically, relationally, sexually and spiritually. I offer a safe space free of judgment, filled with compassion and kindness towards your own process. My theoretical orientation to counseling is rooted in humanistic theories with underlying existentialism and phenomenological philosophies. I firmly believe in the therapeutic alliance and its curative power, in addition to striving to look at all situations from a sex positive, non-shaming, and non-judgmental lens.
My overall approach to therapy is humanistic. I use compassion and empathy to encourage increased self-awareness and mindfulness. Further, I am a Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) Provider. CPT is a powerful treatment developed to treat PTSD and teach you the skills needed to challenge and restructure negative thoughts and process emotions from the trauma.

Sometimes life feels big and fast, and really painful. You might be going through a major transition, dealing with a loss, or coping with intense stress. Whatever the cause, you’re left with the sense that things just aren’t right. Overwhelming as things feel, inside of you, there’s also wisdom and a great capacity to understand and heal what hurts, so that you feel more peace internally and experience more enjoyment as you navigate challenges, losses, stress–whatever life puts in your path. Together, our work will be to find and nourish the wisdom and ability that's already within you. I meet you with openness to all the parts of you, whether they’re critical or criticized, anxious or calm, heavy with sadness or energetic and driven. We work to access and open up the gifts these parts hold and to connect with the core you that’s so full of wisdom and vigor. Life slows down. Healing begins. And a brighter, clearer path opens up before you.

College is this interesting time of transition where you are given an opportunity to explore independence away from your parents, hometown, and all that feels comfortable. But for many, this independence and freedom can be lonely, confusing and downright uncomfortable. You may feel like you are not cut out to succeed in such a high pressure environment. Decisions can seem overwhelming. Am I in the right major? What internship should I choose? Should I study abroad? Do I need to take a semester off? How do I manage my money? The pressure to perform academically can be intense and feel overwhelming. Picking a major, choosing classes, second guessing your decisions, and simply managing time and assignments can feel insurmountable. If you previously struggled with time management or organization, you may find your safety net is now far away and now your grades are suffering. I have worked with many students just like you. I work to treat a range on issues that get in the way of optimal academic performance - from depression to anxiety to ADHD. I further specialize in working with students who are also parents. Parenting young children while working towards your degree is no small feat. Pregnancy and/or postpartum during graduate school is challenging but together we can get through it. Whether you're struggling with depression or anxiety, family transitions during pregnancy or postpartum, or just trying to have more effective, supportive, and fulfilling relationships, I'm here to help. You don't have to carry it alone anymore. My practice specializes in depression and anxiety. I have a particular interest in working with women during pregnancy and postpartum. I primarily use dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and CBT to help clients reach their goals.

I have over 4 years of clinical experience across outpatient, residential, and school-based settings. In my clinical work, I often partner with clients experiencing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, trauma, and identity and adjustment issues. While I see many different clients, I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients, those who are navigating complex trauma, and those who have experienced religious/spiritual abuse or manipulation. Alongside my clinical work, I am also a doctoral student in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Pennsylvania State University where I am pursuing research interests of social justice and systemic change in counseling and religious/spiritual abuse. Through teaching, research, and practice, I value providing therapy that is affirming, trauma-informed, and responsive to each client’s unique culture, context, and experiences. Outside of work, I am a curious, playful, and nature-loving person. I love hiking with my partner, reading, and having a good laugh.
