Therapists for college students near 80309
Therapy asks us to tap into vulnerable parts of ourselves. It requires safety and comfort. My clients are courageous enough to show up as their authentic selves, therefore I value being my authentic self within our therapeutic relationship. I incorporate empirically supported interventions into our time processing concerns, building self-awareness, making meaningful changes, and exploring identities. I specialize working with individuals who desire to dedicate less time and energy to food and body image concerns, and more time to aspects of life truly important to them. I approach disordered eating and body image work from a Health at Every Size (HAES) framework. I want my clients to “taste life” and to experience it in a fulfilling way. I also have ample experience working with anxiety, depression, grief, relational concerns, life transitions, perfectionism, ADD/ADHD, and athletic identity. I value and enjoy working with diverse populations and strive to create a safe space for individuals of all backgrounds, cultures, and identities. While we may not share identities or experiences, it is my mission as your therapist to approach our work with humility and to gain understanding of your authentic self.
Finding calm and clarity when your mind won’t slow down is possible. I can guide the way. We have more influence over our thoughts than we realize. In our work, you’ll learn to approach your thinking more intentionally. As your thoughts change, you’ll start to notice changes in how you feel, the choices you make, and how you move through your life. I help clients slow things down, make sense of what’s been difficult, and address the patterns that keep them feeling stuck. This often includes working through anxiety, depression, and the impact of trauma and past experiences. I also support women navigating life transitions, helping them feel more grounded and steady through change. My approach is thoughtful and practical, combining insight with tools you can use in your day-to-day life.

We also offer services for couples as well as run Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills-based groups and related groups that teach and facilitate mindfulness. I identify as a Togolese immigrant, daughter, sister, fur-mom, and wife in an interracial marriage. These identities influence how I show up as a therapist and constantly evolve each day. The challenges I have faced have given me both the insight and desire to work with individuals, couples, and families through their hurdles and to help them find what is and isn’t their story. I believe in the idea of assisting individuals, couples & families of different backgrounds to find their path instead of feeling stuck and tied down to societal expectations or their past maladaptive patterns. Due to the unique makeup of our world, I use an integrative approach with my clients; this allows me to use modalities that best suit the need of my clients. I value providing warmth, kindness, empathy, and directness when needed. I hope this little bio reflects my passion for working with humans of all different backgrounds and the depth of sacredness I hold for being a part of your stories.

I understand the importance of a safe, nonjudgmental space for exploration, introspection, and healing. I enjoy using creative modalities in conjunction with traditional theoretical frameworks to allow clients to explore challenges and questions from multiple perspectives. I bring experience, compassion, and advocacy to mental health, addiction, and recovery. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults. All of our clinicians have extensive experience working with undergraduate and graduate students, as well as their partners and families. We believe that students at any stage in their education are at exciting moments in their lives that are well-designed for psychological growth and healing.
Deciding to seek therapy can be a hard step to take because it means facing your problems rather than running away from them. When we experience uncomfortable emotions, our instinct a lot of the time is to avoid it and convince ourselves (as well as others) that we're okay. This may lead to short-term relief, however, we often don't realize that it also leads to long-term growth of the issue. This is one way we end up in vicious cycles of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem (which is difficult enough to deal with on top of college adjustments). My goal is to assist individuals with breaking this cycle by gaining new perspectives on their life situations and in turn empowering them to achieve their personal goals. If you're ready to take the first step toward a brighter future, I would be honored to work with you.
Being in college is not like any other time in your life. Some parts of it can be just great and others very challenging and even completely overwhelming at times. It is not at all uncommon for college students to feel anxious, depressed, uncertain about themselves and the future, or to find themselves very challenged by academics, personal identity, thinking of the future, and dealing with complicated relationships of all kinds. I get it! I worked in two university counseling centers before going into private practice and developed a lot of respect for the challenges facing college students. You guys are one of my favorite groups of people to work with, too, because you are in this unique position of usually being fairly newly out of your family home, able to make more choices on your own, and have your whole lives ahead of you to shape the way you want them to be--scary though that is. I'm happy to help you if I can.
