My Approach: Direct and Compassionate - I believe these are the two greatest traits I can bring into my work with others. While working with clients I strive to provide honest feedback that will help guide them forward towards recovery while offering compassion along the journey. I believe that the best route to change is a direct one that does not beat around the bush. The road to recovery of any form can be very difficult as life may be in a state of turmoil. I have found that offering a compassionate approach that fits an individual's needs is the best route to take. My specialities/areas of focus are: substance abuse, addiction and trauma. I am a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have additional trainings in Brainspotting and DBT. In my work as a counselor and my own life I have found that connection is of incredible importance. Inability or unwillingness to feel and express uncomfortable emotions can keep people disconnected. Through the process of recovery, lifestyle changes, and personal growth many people experience fear, anger, sadness, and many other emotions.

My focus as an integrative psychotherapist is on holistic well-being rather than illness. We are generally born in a state of inner harmony, wholeness and health, and as we experience life’s ups and downs, our emotional state can become unbalanced. While validating challenges and offering guidance, my primary goal is to support clients in rediscovering their own inner resources to successfully move forward in a meaningful way. My approach includes an emphasis on creative potential; finding purpose and joy; growth and change; trust and respect. With empathy, warmth and practical tools, I support clients as they increase their understanding and confidence to make progress dealing with depression and isolation, anxiety and stress, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, communication challenges, boundary issues, self-esteem, life transitions, and family conflicts. I enjoy working with diverse populations of all ages and backgrounds as they gain wisdom and insight into their own lives and move toward personal empowerment and resilience. I’m particularly interested in parenting, healthy communications, life adjustments, self-awareness, and supporting caregivers whose loved ones have dementia. As a registered art therapist, I am also trained to provide a creative way for clients to express what may be hard to talk about, especially during times of crisis or difficulty. Art is universal and promotes playfulness, self-expression, and imagination. Art therapy can be a helpful addition to traditional talk therapy. It’s important that my clients feel comfortable and safe in the therapy room: seen, heard, validated, and understood. I look forward to joining you on your unique journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Anxiety, sadness, loneliness, low self-esteem, self-doubt, distress, difficulty sleeping and discomfort in our bodies are indicators that we need support. I am passionate about helping clients navigate difficult transitions, using these challenges as catalysts for healing and growth. With over 25 years of experience in various therapeutic modalities, I provide client-centered and trauma-responsive therapy grounded in compassion and empathy. It is a privilege to guide clients in processing and integrating past and present experiences. A lot of people say they knew at a young age they would be a therapist, but that wasn’t me. I grew up in a military family and thought I would continue that tradition and be a stay-at-home mom. Instead, I found myself in a journalism career and a marriage I didn’t like. Starting over after 30, I chose to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. Since then, I’ve worked with the military, in inpatient facilities, and in outpatient care. I love working with women who find themselves “outside the box” when it comes to societal expectations (child-free/childless, unmarried, or just a-plain-ol’ rebel). I love to focus on resiliency, self-improvement/self-esteem, personal growth, and even a bit of spirituality (if that's your thing). I'm a very laid-back, nontraditional therapist. I believe you are the expert in your own life and, sometimes, we just need some guidance or permission to do the things we know we need to do. I don't assign homework cause, frankly, I wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes, but I will suggest some tasks or actions that may be something to focus on between sessions. I also expect clients to show up with a discussion topic or something to start us off with; again, the time is yours to use as you feel best. I have very eclectic interests. Two things that are very important to me are spirituality and non-traditional relationships. I feel both have their own challenges and prejudices to overcome. I'm always looking for ways to include and incorporate my client's spiritual beliefs (if they choose to share) into sessions and help them build a strong foundation. Nontraditional relationships (including kink dynamics) can be a challenge to bring to therapy as there's often a perceived level of judgment—not here! I celebrate however your relationship looks and work to help you create the most nurturing and healthy relationship however that looks. One of my core values is curiosity, so I love it when I get to learn a little something from my clients. Having grown up in a military family that moved every three years like clockwork, learning about people and cultures has been a huge part of my life. I encourage my clients to practice showing and embodying their authenticity with me so they may go out into the world more confidently. I believe we all have something beautiful to share and learn from each other and I encourage those I work with to explore that on a deeper level.

At my core I’m a human being continually learning to love all that it means to have a human experience in our crazy world. The natural world is my muse, and I enjoy live music, hiking, rock climbing, backpacking, and overlanding the American West. My personal journey through life has helped me to develop a keen interest in human emotion, thoughts, and experiences. Through an attitude of curiosity, I’ve learned to allow my own experiences, emotions and thoughts to inform my moment-by-moment existence in a way that permits me to truly love my life. Strongly influenced by American psychologist Carl Rogers, I believe each human being has a unique and individual definition of what it means to live a life they love. In order to attain this, like Rogers, I believe people need acceptance, genuineness and empathy. My approach to therapy aims to help you live a life you love by weaving in a number of modalities including DBT, ACT, CBT, IFS, and mindfulness. My methodology is grounded in psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, psychoanalytic theory, trauma-informed psychotherapy, and a relationship-centered approach to therapy. Prior to my MSW, I received my BA in Mathematics and had a career in data and analytics. I love logic and using data to inform thoughtful decision-making. In a therapeutic context this means practicing deep listening to ensure I capture my clients’ unique words, feelings, insights, emotions, and stories. Through this, I aim to support you in realizing your potential and achieving your goals. I support people and couples through a number of different mental health difficulties including but not limited to trauma, loss, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, anger, addictions, self-esteem issues, body-dysmorphia, and other life transitions.

In-person/ Face to Face in Colorado Springs and online throughout Colorado. In our sessions we will ride the line between spirituality and psychology. You will learn to be comfortable with discomfort. I will help you connect with yourself on a deeper level. We will uncover your patterns, learn how to implement boundaries, and develop a relationship with yourself. From the minute we meet we will be building a relationship based on trust and authenticity. I strive to create a place where you can be yourself. A place that feels safe to face the things you avoid. Together, we will help you develop a witness of your life and experiences. You will gain the ability to connect with the present moment and calm your nervous system. You will learn to accept things as they are instead of the way you might want them to be. I will teach your how to regulate your emotions and process past trauma. You will stop ruminating and learn to trust your body and regain your intuition. We rebuild the way you see yourself, others, and the world. I have seen this transformation in my clients and want you to experience the true joy life has to offer. If you are done looking for shortcuts and ready to put in the work to free yourself from your past, I have your back!
