Therapists for college students near New York University
My practice serves children, adolescents, young adults struggling with educational issues, career development, the artistic community and general population. My offices are located in midtown Manhattan and Toms River South Jersey. I direct my patients to feel confidence in their autonomy and potential. They find me approachable, accepting and respectful of their privacy. All ages feel comfortable in sessions; share the follies and humor in life with me and eventually work towards acceptable solutions. I work on the need for personal development, independence, academic progress and career plans throughout the developmental spectrum. In addition, I lecture for professional schools and organizations on "Resilience in Children" and "Complexity of Child Therapy".
I’ve always thought that the most beautiful and interesting trees in the forest are the ones that grow into unique forms, shaped by their environment but finding a way to adapt and thrive. Similarly, life’s challenges can shape us in profound ways, but they can also leave us feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or stuck. I’m Rob Gooding, a second-year graduate student at St. Bonaventure University studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am deeply passionate about helping individuals navigate these challenges and uncover their inner resilience to live fulfilling and authentic lives. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship as a foundation for growth and healing. To me, it’s a privilege to walk alongside clients as they share their stories and embark on their journey toward self-discovery and empowerment. My approach is grounded in person-centered principles, recognizing that you are the expert in your own life. I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, valued, and supported. By integrating evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Solution-Focused Therapy, I work with clients to reframe negative thought patterns, develop practical skills, and prioritize their needs. Together, we’ll build tools to navigate challenges with confidence and clarity. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, academic pressures, identity exploration, or life transitions, you don’t have to face it alone. I’m here to help you rediscover your strengths, adapt to life’s demands, and create meaningful change. Just like those unique trees in the forest, your story is one of resilience and growth – and it would be an honor to support you on your path. Robert Gooding is a therapist in-training at Sol Health. Hi! I’m Sarah. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to "have it all figured out" while navigating the ups and downs of college life, you’re in the right place. Whether you’re a New Yorker studying away from home or a Virginian trying to find your footing, I’m here to help you manage the transition. I’ve spent the last three years helping people navigate life’s biggest shifts. I know that being a student isn't just about grades—it’s about managing relationships, setting boundaries with family, and figuring out who you are when the old labels don't seem to fit anymore. My Approach: I don’t believe in "one size fits all" therapy. My style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I bring a grounded, practical perspective to our sessions (with a touch of wit) to help you move from feeling stuck to feeling capable. I specialize in: Relationship Navigation: Modern dating, roommate friction, and family dynamics. Anxiety & Perfectionism: Silencing the "not enough" voice. Life Transitions: Moving, career pivot anxiety, and identity shifts. I offer a space where you can be completely yourself—no "clinical mask" required. Let’s work together to build a toolkit that actually works for your life, not just your syllabus.
Is now the time for change? Do you have goals but aren’t sure how to achieve them or even set them? Has life thrown you some curveballs lately? You are in the right place. I commend you for taking the first step on the path to a better you. You deserve to be the best version of yourself and you are already taking the first step in self care by being here. Investing in yourself is the very best investment you can make. As a therapist, I have the wonderful opportunity to support you on your path to becoming the best version of you. In my career and life I have experienced the difficulty in trying to balance it all and found that it’s not easy. We often put ourselves on the back burner while taking care of everything and everyone else. I look forward to helping you prioritize, set boundaries, and find happiness for you. We are a good team if you are ready to make the time to evaluate your life, adjust your goals and gain confidence in putting yourself first.
I provide psychotherapy and contemporary psychoanalysis for adult individuals of all ages, identities, and backgrounds. I use several therapeutic techniques and an integrative approach that is tailored to suit the needs of each individual patient. I believe in the transformative powers of honesty, authenticity and unconditional positive regard. Therapy is ultimately about meaning making. I listen closely to my patients without judgment and without jumping to conclusions. My goal is to understand you on your own terms—free of any rigid diagnoses or other labels. I believe that the heart of this work resides in the therapeutic relationship itself, and to this end, I seek to build bridges of clarity and comfort between us. Our work together will consist of attempting to understand you in a holistic, depth-oriented manner. We will consider how your past might be effecting your present—have you developed patterns in your life that are inhibiting and no longer serve you well? I understand that some people seek out therapy to address a discrete, well-defined issue, while others come out of a more abstract, gnawing sense that something in their life needs to change.

Have you experienced significant life changes recently and are having a hard time adjusting? Have you been feeling lost, lonely, isolated, anxious, or frustrated? Has serious illness entered your life or the life of a loved one, creating new challenges in adaptive coping and finding meaning in your life? Are you navigating profound grief and loss? I believe that by working together, we can identify and enhance your strengths while working on strategies that allow you to address the root causes of your difficulties and build meaningful social connections. While my approach is eclectic and strengths-based, it is informed by Acceptance and Commitment therapy, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, and a mindfulness/ mind-body connection approach. I am a certified yoga teacher and am working toward a Yoga Therapy certification. I am comfortable bringing in elements of mind body connection, breathwork and meditation if that is something of interest to you. Together we will build your resiliency and empower you to experience your most authentic self. I look forward to hearing form you and embarking on this journey together!

We assess each client's environment, family, biological factors, and experiences from childhood to the present day. We consider a strong therapeutic relationship to be the highest indicator of progress in therapy. Being able to be open with one another enhances the therapy process. Without a strong rapport between therapist and client, safety doesn't exist, and barriers to positive change exist. After gathering history and establishing rapport, we then tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs. We provide EMDR (trauma therapy) as well as regular talk psychotherapy.
You may feel stuck, uncertain about yourself, overwhelmed by life transitions, or carrying the weight of the past. These moments hold emotional truths that deserve to be seen, heard, and understood. When we meet them with care and curiosity, they can become powerful entry points to deeper self-discovery and lasting self-compassion. The process of turning inward, increasing self-awareness and self-kindness, can be complex, but it often opens the door to meaningful growth. My role is to offer a safe, judgment-free space where this kind of exploration can unfold. I feel honored to walk alongside individuals as they reconnect with the parts of themselves that may feel lost, silenced, or in conflict. My approach is person-centered and psychodynamic, grounded in empathy and with a deep respect for your unique story. Together, we’ll explore your inner world at a pace that feels right for you. Individuals often share that they feel at ease in our sessions, able to speak freely, even when the emotions are difficult to name. Therapy with me is a collaborative process, grounded in trust, where you can feel empowered to take steps that align with your values. If you're ready to begin, or even just curious, I welcome you to reach out!
